Bogle is the Founder of The Vanguard Group, one of the two largest mutual fund organizations in the world, and President of the Bogle Financial Markets Research Center. In 2004, TIME magazine named Mr. Bogle as one of the world’s 100 most powerful and influential people, and Institutional Investor presented him with its Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1999, Fortune designated him as one of the investment industry’s four “Giants of the 20th Century.”

Phi Beta Kappa’s traveling exhibit consists of contemporary and historic images from the national office of Phi Beta Kappa, Colonial Williamsburg and various university archives.

The exhibit at Coe College also includes items related to the chapter's history, such as the chapter's 1949 charter.

Former NFL coach and pro football hall-of-famer Marv Levy was one of the first members of Phi Beta Kappa inducted by the Epsilon of Iowa chapter.

Levy will return to Coe this fall to speak to students while the Phi Beta Kappa exhibit is on display there.

The exhibit is available to any Phi Beta Kappa affiliate organization seeking to increase awareness of Phi Beta Kappa and share the rich history of the Society with their campus and community.

In November of last year, National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Jim Leach launched a 19-month, 50-state Civility Tour. The Civility Tour will serve to expose the rampant proliferation of inflammatory political speech, which can now be spread all over the world in a matter of seconds. Chairman Leach will argue for the importance of “civility in civilization,” giving speeches and interviews, meeting with local leaders, and appearing on radio and television shows. “Citizens should be expected to disagree vigorously with each other and take their disagreements to the ballot box,” he said. “But after the election we all have a vested interest that a government of, by, and for the people doesn’t implode.” For more information, visit www.neh.gov.

Please join us for a director's cut screening of the film "Your Environmental Road Trip" with the filmmaker, Mark Dixon.

YERT is a one-year, 50-state video documentary road trip to explore and personalize sustainability across the United States. The journey included visits to environmentally significant destinations and interviews with over 800 leaders, business people, researchers, and average citizens. Work on this project has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, on the Weather Channel, Voice of America, NPR stations nationwide via the environmental news program "Living on Earth," and Treehugger.com.

This event is part of a series of Phi Beta Kappa sustainability events in southern California.
